A pipe bomb in my mailbox? No way!

A recently came across a bunch of videos following the "classic sonic and his friends dancing with a threatening caption" format. Basically, this:

And yesterday, I came across this edit of the "No Way? No Way!" screen:

The "No Way" screen is a part of the Blue Spheres game for the Sega Genesis. You can read more about how it came to be on Sonic Retro. The relevant bit is that when you first start the game, it greets you with the four characters looking at you, and scrolling text saying "No Way? No Way!", as if there isn't a game at all.

After seeing the edit, I came up with an idea. I downloaded the Genesis ROM, loaded it into hexed.it, and searched for occurrences of "NO WAY" in the ROM. To my surprise, this bit of text was encoded in ASCII rather than some sort of a binary encoding, allowing me to substitute it with my own text without any hassle:

(the offsets may be a bit off, since I used the Blue Spheres Standalone ROM)

In the end, lo and behold, my first ever Sonic ROM hack.

I won't be posting the hack itself, since it's really easy and fun to create it on your own (as well as add your own meme captions).
